James R. Richards, DVM

As director of the Cornell Feline Heath Center and as editor-in-chief of CatWatch, a monthly newsletter for cat owners, Dr. Richards frequently addresses many issues regarding feline health. A 1979 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Richards is past president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and recently chaired the AAFP 2006 Feline Vaccine Advisory Panel. Prior to joining the Cornell Feline Health Center, Dr. Richards was in private practice.
Dr. Richards is the official media spokesperson for the AAFP. Media appearances include CNN's "Science & Technology Week," "CBS News Saturday Morning," FOX-TV "Pet News," an awareness campaign with 25 television interviews via satellite media tour, local television news programs in cities throughout the United States and various radio talk programs.
Dr. Richards is a frequent presenter at educational conferences and has edited or authored chapters in a number of textbooks including the "Veterinary Clinics of North America," "Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine" and the "Five-Minute Veterinary Consult." His writings have appeared in the Compendium on Continuing Education, the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery and other veterinary journals.Dr. Richards is also the author of the "ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats." He is a Fellow member of the AAFP and a member of the Cat Writers' Association.
